The northwest coast begins with the popular beach resort of Negombo, which is only a few miles from the international airport. Explore further north for whale and dolphin watching, game parks, and lagoons. Aside from Negombo, the secluded beach communities of Kalpitiya and Mannar in the far north remain untouched by mainstream tourism. Wilpattu National Park is undoubtedly Sri Lanka’s most beautiful. Dolphins and whales can be spotted in the seas off the coast of Kalpitiya, while Mannar is a shelter for exotic migration birds from October to March. The Muthurajawela Wetlands are a wetland on the Northwest coast. Together with the Negombo lagoon to the north, they constitute a biodiverse habitat, home to various biodiversity in Sri Lanka.
Anawilundawa is a collection of freshwater tanks situated in the sanctuary. For many migratory birds, it is a significant wetland.

A century later, the Dutch captured it.It was rebuilt and eventually occupied by the British. The ruins are located near the new bridge connecting the mainland to Mannar Island. The fort is open to the public and is occupied by the Sri Lanka Railway.
