Negombo
Negombo is a city on Sri Lanka’s west coast, north of the capital, with a broad sandy beach, large hotels, and convenient proximity to Colombo, one of the first to be captured by the Portuguese. The remains of the 17th-century Dutch Fort near the waterfront now house a prison. The Dutch-era Hamilton Canal feeds into Negombo Lagoon, which is studded with fishermen’s houses. The canal connects Colombo to the south
Lanka Sportreizen pioneered windsurfing on the island in Negombo. During the windsurfing season, which runs from December to April, Negombo remains a popular destination. Negombo also has a variety of water sports such as water skiing, scuba diving, and snorkelling.
Ride on the charming canal that served as a supply route for the Dutch authorities during colonisation. The boat ride/safari along the old Dutch canal that runs through Waikkal provides guests with a glimpse of birdlife, including waders, magnificent kingfishers, uncommon pied kingfishers, bee-eaters, Brahminy kites, and so on. Water monitors with striking resemblances to crocodiles are also likely to appear. The boat trip can be extended by following the canal to the sea.
