Exploring the Jaffna Islands is a fantastic experience. Delft Island, with its tiny village dwellings, wild horses roaming the plains, and the ruins of a Portuguese fort, is a perfect location to spend a day. The historic ‘Nagadeepa’, a Buddhist temple and the ‘Naga Pooshani Ambal’, a Hindu temple, are located on Nainativu Island, which is easier to reach.
In 1938, Chundikulam National Park was a bird sanctuary. After the civil war ended in 2012, itwas upgraded to national park status, and its boundaries now extend up to Adam’s Bridge and Delft Island.The Jaffna peninsula is slowly reclaiming its reputation as a birders’ paradise as it begins to draw visitors once more.
In 1680, the Dutch expanded Jaffna Fort. More than three centuries later, they are now financially assisting its reconstruction after the destruction inflicted by the Sri Lanka civil war. It is a fascinating point that you should not overlook.
Point Pedro, also known as Sakkotai Cape, is Sri Lanka’s northernmost point and served as a commercial post throughout pre – colonial and colonial eras.
